Winnipeg Youth Volleyball League – Winter 2018

Volleyball Manitoba is pleased to offer a new program for athletes looking to play volleyball in the winter of 2018. The Winnipeg Youth Volleyball League was created to provide skill instruction and game play opportunities to players who are new to the game or have played school volleyball but may not be playing club volleyball.

Divisions:

Grade 6/7 – (born in 2006/2005)

Grade 8/9 – (born in 2004/2003)

Location:

Grade 6/7 – Canada Games Sport for Life Center, 145 Pacific Avenue.

Grade 8/9 – Dakota Community Center Fieldhouse, 1188 Dakota Street.

Team Composition:

  • Players may register as individuals, with a group of friends or create their own team of 8-12 players to join the league.
  • There will be a separate boys and girls division.
  • Each division will have combined birth years.

Coaching:

  • Each team is required to have at least one adult who is on court with the team at each session to act as a team leader/coach.
  • Volleyball Manitoba will have coaches at each session to plan and oversee the activities in co-operation with the team leaders.
  • Team Leaders are required to complete the Volleyball Manitoba background screening.

Format:

GRADE 6/7

  • 8 Weeks January 14-March 11
  • Sunday January 14th and Sunday January 21st, teams will be assigned a practice time where the basic skills and concepts of the game with be taught.
  • The next 6 Sundays will feature game play where each team will have a warm-up and play 4 timed sets using triple ball game play format.
  • The regular game times will be on Sunday’s between 2-5pm and teams will play 1 or 2 games per week.
  • Teams may have a Friday game on February 2 and 9 between 6:00 and 9:00pm
  • A team rotation will be set each week to ensure equal playing time.
  • No games will be scheduled on the Louis Riel Day long weekend.

Practice:

  • Players will be given the opportunity to practice on Tuesday evenings starting January 16th at the Canada Games Sport for life Center between 6:00-9:00pm. Practices will be 45-60 minutes.
  • While not mandatory, attending practices is strongly encouraged
  • Exact practice times TBD

GRADE 8/9

  • 11 Weeks January 14-April 15
  • Sunday January 14th and Sunday January 21st, teams will be assigned a practice time where the basic skills and concepts of the game with be taught.
  • The next 9 Sundays will feature game play where each team will have a warm-up and play 4 timed sets.
  • The regular game times will be on Sunday’s between 11:00-3:00pm and teams will play 1 game per week.
  • A team rotation will be set each week to ensure equal playing time.
  • Players will be given the opportunity to play and learn different positions.
  • No games will be scheduled on the Louis Riel Day long weekend.

Practice:

  • Players will be given the opportunity to practice on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings starting January 16or 17 at Dakota Community Center or the Canada Games Sport for life Center between 6:00-9:00pm. Practices will be 45-60 minutes.
  • While not mandatory, attending practices is strongly encouraged
  • Exact practice times TBD

Cost:

  • Grade 6/7: $225 + GST + $15 Volleyball Manitoba Membership
  • Grade 8/9: $310 + GST + $15 Volleyball Manitoba Membership

Registration:

The League Registration Deadline is Wednesday, January 10th.

WYVL Registration for Individual Players/Small Groups:

  • All athletes will need to complete the Player Registration Form.  For Small Groups, please ensure that you note your groups members in the appropriate section.
