Head Coach Certification Requirements for 14U-16U

Head coaches must complete all Screening Requirements.

A head coach at the 14U-16U age level must complete the Development Coach Requirements which consists of three prerequisites, workshop and evaluation. Once all of these requirements are completed, the coach will receive Certified Development Coach status.

A head coach participating in Provincials or Nationals for the first or second time in 2024 must successfully complete the prerequisites and a Development Coach Workshop.

A head coach participating in Provincials or Nationals for the third time or more in 2024 must successfully complete the prerequisites, a Development Coach Workshop and a Development Coach Evaluation.

Prerequisites for Development Coach Workshop:

Foundations of Volleyball

Foundations of Volleyball (1.5 hrs). The e-modules are designed to provide all the essential information a volleyball coach will need prior to the In-Person Workshops.

DO NOT complete the “ELEMENTARY VOLLEYBALL ELEARNING & TEACHER GUIDE” e-module.

Steps on how to complete Foundations of Volleyball:

  1. Create an account on / log into the Volleyball Canada Coaching Centre (include your NCCP # to link to The Locker)
  2. Once logged in, scroll down the “Development Coach” section and click on the “+” to expand it.
  3. Under “Pre-Workshop E-Modules” is the “Foundations of Volleyball” module at the top (1.5 hrs, $89)
  4. Click on the “register” link just to the right of it to pay and begin.

Making Ethical Decisions Online Training & Evaluation

Coaches must successfully complete the Make Ethical Decisions (MED) Online Evaluation developed by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC).

There are 2 ways to complete the MED Online Evaluation:

  1. If a coach has completed the MED training, and it appears on their transcript, they will have unlimited attempts at the MED evaluation, at no cost.
  2. If a coach chooses to proceed directly to the MED evaluation without taking any training.
    • A fee of $85 will apply.
    • The coach will have 2 attempts at passing the evaluation. If after 2 attempts, the coach has not received a passing grade of 75% or better, they will need to sign up for MED training.

Steps on how to complete Making Ethical Decisions Training (online/in-person):

  1. Log in to The Locker with your NCCP # in The Locker. If you don’t remember your password, use the Forgot password linkto reset your password.
  2. Once logged in, click on “Calendar” at the top.
  3. Select appropriate filters, coaches can select “all prov./terr.” to see available options
  4. Click on the event to register

Steps on how to complete Making Ethical Decisions Online Evaluation WITHOUT taking the training:

  1. Log in to The Locker with your NCCP # in The Locker. If you don’t remember your password, use the Forgot password link to reset your password.
  2. Once logged in, click on “eLearning” at the top.
  3. In the left-hand menu, click on “Make Ethical Decisions (MED) Online Evaluation” (45 mins, $85 or free).
  4. Select the stage of athletes from the right that you work with most often.
  5. Scroll to the bottom and click on the “Begin” or “Pay Now” button to begin.

Making Headway in Sport Generic

Designed to help you gain the knowledge and skills required to ensure the safety of your athletes, this multi-sport module will cover:

  • What to do to prevent concussions
  • How to recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion
  • What to do when you suspect an athlete has a concussion
  • How to ensure athletes return to play safely

Steps on how to complete Making Headway in Sport eLearning:

  1. Log in to The Locker with your NCCP # in The Locker. If you don’t remember your password, use the Forgot password link to reset your password.
  2. Once logged in, click on “eLearning” at the top.
  3. In the left-hand menu, click on “Making Head Way” (90 mins, free)
  4. Scroll down to “Choose your module”.
  5. Click on “Sport (Generic)” module to begin.

Development Coach Workshop

The Development Coach program is the primary entry point for most coaches in the volleyball community. The course supports coaches working in the Train to Train stage or the age groups of 14-16.

Coaches must complete all prerequisites including the foundations of volleyball e-learning modules before they are eligible to register for the Development Coach Workshop.

Development Coach Evaluation

The Development Coach Evaluation is the final step of the NCCP Certification process. After successful completion of the evaluation a coach will then receive certified status.

The Evaluation includes:

  • Make Ethical Decisions Online Evaluation
  • Making Head Way in Sport (generic)
  • Analyzing Performance Evaluation (Basic Skills)
  • Portfolio & Evaluation (To be completed with a Volleyball Canada evaluator)

Steps on completing your Development Coach Evaluation:

  1. Login to your Volleyball Canada Coaching Centre account.
  2. Click on the Status tab and select the level you wish to be evaluated for (Development)
  3. Under the Evaluation section, you must complete the prerequisites in the order that they appear.
  4. Once Analyzing Performance Evaluation is completed, you can register for the Portfolio and Evaluation.
  5. After you register and pay the $120 fee a Volleyball Canada evaluator will contact you via email with further instructions on how to complete the evaluation
