Aspiring Referees in Rural Manitoba:

For individuals in rural areas, Level 1 Certification is delivered through an online training format followed by match assignments and evaluation. This will involve the following:

  • Interested individuals are to register through our SportLomo Registration system HERE.
  • Once registered, individuals will be sent an email from a course facilitator with further instructions and online assignments. These assignments involve a 3 session process of rule interpretation and game facilitation. After each session an assessment will be taken, and upon successful completion of the assessment the next session will then be provided again by email. After the three sessions are complete, a final assessment will be assigned involving all course material.
  • The online modules, including the final assessment, can take anywhere from four to seven hours to complete, depending on the individual’s knowledge of volleyball and the rules of the game.
  • Upon completion of all online sessions and the final assessment, individuals will then be allowed to register and create an account with the MVOA to provide availability for match assignments. Assignments could be within the Winnipeg region or the Brandon Westman region, depending on where the referee resides. For a referees first few matches, an evaluator will be assigned to observe and support the referee so they are comfortable and competent in their role.
  • All referees are required to register with Volleyball Manitoba and complete applicable registration requirements.

If you are interested in becoming a referee and live in a rural community, or if you have any questions about the certification process, please reach out to Anthony at volleyball.pd@sportmanitoba.ca for more information.
