Volleyball Manitoba Winter D-League Program

*NOTE: The Volleyball Manitoba D-League Program has been postponed throughout January 2022.

Returning in January 2022, Volleyball Manitoba will offer athletes ages 12U-17U the opportunity to join us for a season of training and competition at Sport Manitoba.  For the 2022 season, the Volleyball Manitoba Winter D-League program will continue to focus on training the skills and concepts necessary to become a more confident volleyball player while adding a new competition format.  Based on successful programs in other regions of Canada and Europe, the Winter D-League will compete using a 3 on 3 league format for the 2022 season.

Practices – Practices will be held on Wednesday evenings for one hour starting at 6:10 or 7:20 at Sport Manitoba. All practices will be held on a regular full court and will teach all the volleyball skills and game play concepts in a 6 on 6 setting.

Games – Games will be held on Sunday morning at Sport Manitoba between 9:00am and 12:00pm. Each player will be assigned to a Team and will play at least 1 60-minute game each Sunday.  There will also be 2 tournament days where teams should be prepared to play multiple matches between 9:00am and 5:00pm

Why 3 on 3 league format? –  There remains some uncertainty on facility availability throughout Manitoba which could impact the number of appropriate competitive opportunities during the club season. Creating a 3 on 3 competition within the program will allow us to ensure athletes have the chance to apply their skills in a game setting.

Basketball, rugby, soccer and others have successfully used smaller sided versions of the sport to compete, learn the fundamental skills and have fun.  The 3 on 3 version of volleyball will allow athletes to apply all the skills more frequently which will help accelerate learning.  Games will use a regulation height net and a court that is regulation length but only about 2/3 the width. All other regulation Volleyball rules will apply.
