‘MONSTER TRUCK TO HEADLINE SUPER-SPIKE
TAKING PLACE JULY 20 & 21’

‘ULTIMATE FRISBEE ADDED AS ADDITIONAL SPORT AT EVENT’

Winnipeg – Super-Spike, presented by Michelob Ultra, is excited to welcome Canadian rockers ‘Monster Truck’ as this year’s event headliner.  Super-Spike, which is taking place July 20th & 21st at Maple Grove Rugby Park, combines Western Canada’s largest outdoor/beach volleyball tournament with a weekend long concert series, all set in a festival atmosphere.  New this year, Ultimate Frisbee has been added as an additional sport that will run in conjunction with the volleyball tournament.

Making their first ever appearance at Super-Spike, Monster Truck, who hails from Hamilton, Ontario, will be bringing their blue-collar, no-frills style, that mixes groove, sludge, southern rock, and vintage sounds.  The high-energy band is about to release their third album which will be a follow up to the highly acclaimed ‘Sittin’ Heavy’ released in 2016.  Along with Monster Truck, who will be headlining on Saturday July 21st, Super-Spike is excited to announce that Canadian indie rockers The Elwins will be headlining the main stage on Friday July 20th.  Also scheduled to perform at Super-Spike are The Pistol Whips, Vikings, Deep Dark Cave, Leanne Pearson, The Middle Coast, Ras Tamils, and the Dust Rhinos.

Public interested in registering a team for this year’s event can do so by visiting www.superspike.ca. Early bird registration fees for teams are only $49 per person through to June 1st.  All Super-Spike tournament participants receive free access for the concert series and on-site festivities.

Early bird weekend passes for non-tournament participants will be on-sale as of today, and can be purchased for only $25 through www.superspike.ca.  After June 1st they will go up to regular price of $35.

“We are thrilled to add Ultimate Frisbee as a new sport to the event this year,” stated Event General Manager Greg Paseshnik.  “We have been looking to further expand and evolve Super-Spike in recent years, and after meeting with the Manitoba Organization of Disc Sports (MODS), they were extremely interested in a potential partnership opportunity by adding Ultimate to the event.  It is such a good fit to bring them on board and create some fun new synergies with the two groups of players who have a lot of commonalities.  It was time to take the event to the next level,” added Paseshnik.  “Between the addition of Ultimate, and what I honestly feel is one of the best music line ups we have ever booked, I am confident this will be the biggest and best Super-Spike to date.”

Super-Spike, now in its seventeenth year, also acts as a significant local charitable fundraiser with over $1 million raised to date.  The event splits its proceeds between three charitable organizations including Volleyball Manitoba as a staple annual partner, and two rotating new charities each year selected through an annual application process.  KidSport Manitoba, and the True North Youth Foundation have been selected as the two other Super-Spike charitable recipients for 2018.
