Canada Games 2017 Head Coaches Announced

Volleyball Manitoba is pleased to announce the Head Coaches that will lead our indoor and beach volleyball teams for the 2017 Canada Games that will be held in Winnipeg next summer.

The head coach for the boy’s indoor team (athletes born in 1999 or later) will be Ryan Ratushniak. Ryan has extensive coaching experience at the club, provincial team, college, university and national team levels. Ryan is currently the assistant coach with the University of Manitoba Bison’s as well as with the Canadian Women’s National Team and has won medals at the national level as a coach with university, club and provincial team programs.

The head coach of the girl’s indoor team will be Josh Thordarson. Josh has also been very active as a coach for a number of years at the high school, club, and college levels. A fully certified Level 3 coach, he was the assistant coach for the Team Manitoba men’s team at the 2013 Canada Games in Sherbrooke and has won national medals as a coach at the provincial team and club levels.

The head coach for our women’s beach volleyball program (athletes born in 1997 or later) will be Wanda Guenette. An Olympian with the Canadian indoor women’s team in Atlanta 1996, Wanda is one of the most accomplishments athletes from Manitoba on both the hard court and in the sand, where she also competed on the FIVB World Beach Tour for several years. She is a level 3 certified beach volleyball coach, and has coached numerous beach teams from Manitoba over the past decade to success at the provincial level, as well as medals at the national championships and Western Canada Games.

The head coach of our men’s beach volleyball program will be Morgan Cheyne. Morgan has been active over the past number of years coaching indoor at the high school, club and university levels. He has also been active as a beach coach since 2010, and was involved as a coach at the Western Canada Games in 2011 and 2015, as well as the Canada Games in Sherbrooke in 2013.

We look forward to working with these very qualified coaches as we develop our teams towards a goal of medaling at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in our home province.
