MTS Super-Spike raises $87,936!

MEDIA RELEASE

Wednesday, November 8, 2017

The snow may have arrived for the season, but the heat from this past summer’s MTS Super-Spike presented by Bud Light has not stopped.  The event has now officially closed the books on the year, and is excited to announce that $87,936 was raised, with 100% of the funds going back to support Volleyball Manitoba and local charities in our community.  Fifty percent of the funds raised are being allocated to annual host organization and event partner Volleyball Manitoba, while the other fifty percent is being split with Kid Sport Manitoba and The True North Youth Foundation, each receiving $21,984, as this year’s pre-selected event charities of choice.

MTS Super-Spike, which took place this past July 21 & 22 at Maple Grove Rugby Park, combines Western Canada’s largest outdoor/beach volleyball tournament with a weekend-long concert series, all set in a festival atmosphere.  The event saw 464 teams and 3,472 players take part, the second highest total of registered players in its sixteen year history.  Including the volleyball players, just under 6,000 people walked through the gates this year.

“We are enormously grateful for MTS Super-Spike’s support of KidSport Manitoba this year. One hundred percent of these funds will be used to remove barriers and help less fortunate children participate in sport – so all kids can play.” – Jeff Hnatiuk, President & CEO, Sport Manitoba

“The True North Youth Foundation was extremely humbled to be chosen as a beneficiary of MTS Super-Spike this year. What a fantastic event for our Province to lay claim to. We look forward to implementing the funds we’re receiving to help build new beach volleyball courts at Camp Manitou.” – Dwayne Green, Executive Director, True North Youth Foundation

“We are thrilled to have taken on one of Manitoba’s best summer events under the Volleyball Manitoba umbrella and become its staple annual beneficiary. These funds will help us considerably as we work to enhance our programming in the areas of sport initiation, performance pathway and technical leadership, benefiting young volleyball players, provincial teams, coaches and referees. We look forward to hosting and helping to continue its success for years to come.” – John Blacher, Executive Director, Volleyball Manitoba

MTS Super-Spike is a significant local charitable fundraiser with over $1 million raised to date.  Formerly a fundraiser for the National Women’s Volleyball Team who recently relocated to Richmond, B.C., MTS Super-Spike now splits its proceeds between Volleyball Manitoba and two rotating new charities each year selected through an annual application process.
